Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Of all the Harry Potter books written by J.K. Rowling, the last_ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has proved to be my favourite.
The series began wit an orphaned Harry at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As the story progresses, we find that Harry makes friends with his classmates Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger. He finds a father figure in Albus Dumbledore, his brilliant Headmaster. But the fly in the ointment is professor called Severus Snape who takes potions_ the wizardry equivalent of Chemistry. He hates Harry but often saves him_ a perennial mystery_ why? And who is the evil wizard Voldemort and why does he pursue Harry so relentlessly?
As the series progresses, the atmosphere becomes darker. Harry losses his godfather Sirius black and even Dumbledore_ both dying to save him. It becomes clearer and clearer to him that he is indeed the Chosen One_destine4d to bring an end to Voldemort_ only he does not know that ways and means.
Running like a silver thread thro8ghtoutthe chronicles are the small tales of triumph that makes life bearable for a schoolboy_ his enduring friendship with Ron and Hermione. Their trials, tribulations those are overcame with valor and mobility of soul and heart. Though this part might seem an uninteresting moral tale, Rowling has dished it up with such an artful garnish that the morals are made highly palatable.
It is only in the last book that the numerous threads are woven together to come to a splendiferous ending. Severus Snape turns out to be a man with a past. He had loved Harry's mother Lily, and was broken hearted when she decided to marry James Potter, Snape archenemy. Snape had joined Voldemort, as he had a yearning to give in to his Dark side. But when Lily's son's life was in balance, Snape had to leave Voldemort. Turning into a double agent, he often rushed his own life to save Harry's.
Harry understands that according to a prophecy, he had to die to make Voldemort die. So he sets out, alone, to confront Voldemort and die a willing death. His thoughts and felling as he forces himself towards Voldemort is a four-de force and I can never read it without getting emotional.
Another interesting feature is that while the previously hated Severus Snape turns into a hero, the saintly figure Albus Dumbledore turns out to be a cunning and manipulative man. It is with horror that we realize that he had known all along Harry would die at Voldemort's hands and yet he had guided and tempered Harry to go forth to meet just such a fate.
It is Rowling's crowning glory that she believably brings Harry back from a near death experience. This allows not only Harry, but also us to enjoy Harry's triumph over Voldemort and rejoice in a long and happy life.
I would recommend this book and the whole series to people who have not yet read them because I believe it is a class in it self. One learns about loyalty one may have inside one's external appearance and that we must face our life's entire ordeal bravely. Though we muggles really don't know if magic exists or not, we cannot stop believing in small miracles that happen throughout one's life day in and night.
